School Week 13 2011-2012

This week X7 is rowing the book Cranberry Thanksgiving! We love this book, I think it is safe to say we love all of our FIAR books!  We have been doing read a louds as well using the Mr. Putter and Tabby books for co op.

A9 is done with Matilda and has started reading Misty of Chincoteague.  She is to start Fantastic Mr. Fox for co op next week... hopefully she'll be done with Misty by then.

We are to start book 3 of My America: Oregon Trail Diary.  We've had a wonderful time reading these books aloud.  No matter how late school goes we always make time for My America books! I wish they would have made more of them...

Next week is Thanksgiving but we will be having school all three days... we'll have independent reading and read a loud time.... maybe math.

Bunnies update:  Piggy is doing great, he is gaining about 20 grams every day, which means mamma is feeding him/her.... the grey bunny which we've named Fuzzball is active and it's eating but her weight is not really increasing, is is staying between 88 and 90 grams.  I think a second visit to the vet is in order.  Papa bunny has an appointment Tuesday morning to get nurtured... no more babies from him I'm afraid.
Both bunnies are looking so cute in their own ways.. Piggy is chubby and delicious and Fuzzball is tiny and adorable!

Baby Bunnies Update

We started with six baby bunnies, we are now down to two... I think the fact that the mom is still so young(six months), we think she did not have enough milk for all of them so only the strongest ones were able to get any... as of right now the light color bunny seems to be the strongest because he is well fed, the grey one is a bit weaker.  I took them to the vet and she was not very optimistic about their chances... She gave me some food and showed me how to feed them and I have been doing that... They are both hanging in there... let's just say we are praying these bunnies to health!  The male papa is getting fixed on the 11th, and the mom as soon as she is done nursing... which maybe be sooner that I want her to...
I don't think I can go through this again... but the babies are the cutest things I have ever seen!!

Meet our New Pets

About a month ago we got some new pets... two bunnies! Coco and Coconut are the new additions to our family of pets which include two dogs, two birds, one hamster, and a now deceased fish.

We got the bunnies for free and our neighbor gave us her old bunny cage for free as well.
We went ahead and made a new cage for them so we would not have to worry about them while we are away during the summer.
Now if it's raining they have their other cage to go into! This was a $30 project that turned into a $100 one, but we are very happy with the results and we know it will last for a very long time!

Yes, we built it ourselves... it took us one day to do it.... we are very proud of this box!!

So Long Harry!

Our beloved beta fish Harry died this morning! It was very sad. Usually when I go into the kitchen he comes to the front of the fish tank, just to look at me. Today he didn't, when I looked closer I saw he was in the bottom of the tank... not moving.

We'll miss you Harry, you were the best pet fish I've ever had!!!

Our New Pet

After the death of our beloved hamster Cookie we decided to take some time and see if we wanted to get another hamster or not... after months of going to Pet stores and looking at hamsters and not really connecting with any of them I am happy to say this past weekend all that changed!

After A8's Performathon we went to Pet Smart just to "look", we found these Robo hamsters, they are supposed to be the smallest hamsters out there. Well, we fell in love, or rather DH fell in love!

We got all of our old hamster stuff out, made sure we had everything we needed. However, after researching all about robo hamsters we relized we couldn't use our old cage because robos are too small for them, they can easily get out, so we needed a fish tank instead. Lucky for us a coworker of Dh's gave us a free one last year!!

We got a new wheel for it and some things for the hamster to climb on and we were ready for a new hamster!

We got her yesterday and named her Snickerdoodles!!! She is the cutest thing, so tiny and fast..

Here is her new home!

I told you she was small!

One more because she is too cute!

Cookies N Cream

Our beloved pet dwarf hamster Cookie died last night. Not sure what happened, during the day she was really active climbing the cage as usual, eating just fine. Some time in the evening she was not moving, we thought she was really tired from being so active since she usually sleeps during the day.

Later in the evening she was struggling to breathe and that's when we knew she was dying.

We held her till she was gone...

Speaking of cookies n cream...

Meet our new hamster Cookies n Cream! She is a dwarf hamster, which means she won't be getting any bigger than that, just fatter! We were going to wait till the kids were a bit older to get a hamster, but Dh fell in love with this little dwarf hamster and our neighbors gave us their old hamster cage with everything included, all we needed to get was the bedding, food and of course the hamster! She is just a little cutie, we also got her a little hamster ball and she just loves it!
I'll have to get a video of her in it, it's too funny! She likes to nibble and she has bit us a few times(it doesn't hurt at all) but I'm hoping the more we interact with her the tamer she'll get.
So now we have a hamster, two parakeets, our beta fish and two dogs!! I think that will be it for now, unless Dh falls in love with some other little critter...like a turtle!?!?!
